Parzania

Parzania is a film based on true incidents. Those incidents that bring forth the question of questionable existence of civilization and humanity, incidents that irreparably dented the bond between two brothers of the family. Yes, the film depicts the inhuman, callous and merciless activities of communal jingoists in Gujarath during the communal or Godhra riots in the year of 2002.

The film is about a Parsi family, consisting of Husband, wife and a son and a daughter living happily. One fine day news arrives that 58 hindu ‘karasevaks’ were burnt alive in a train while returning from pilgrimage, by allegedly Muslim extremists. With in 24 hrs of that incident riots break up in Ahmedabad. Innocent men and women were dragged down to the streets and killed brutally. In the midst of horrendous acts, son disappears, who was mistaken for a Muslim, even though father, mother and daughter escape out.

As the riots calm down a bit the family begins the search for missed boy and in meantime they try to keep their sanity and frustration from being cut loose. In this mission helping them is Allan, an American, who is in Ahmedabad to do his research on Gandhi and his life, who is here to find the answers to his troubled life and find internal peace.

The film shows the way the riots were conducted and the brutality was executed. The film portrays the different ways that were used during the actual Godhra times. The attacks that were planned and performed during the day light and police were asked not to involve or interfere, and electricity and phone lines were dead and they even planted the saffron flags on the walls of some of the houses to differentiate Hindu families from Muslims.

Godhra riots which were carried out in retaliation to the burning of 58 karasevaks remain to be one of the darkest patches in the history of India. During which women of all ages, including pregnant women and children, were raped, gang raped, and their breast was cut and threw it around and they were put knives in their private parts and men were stripped and cut into pieces. The mob was showing its atrocious, wicked power on defenseless, middle class innocent people, who once felt safe to live in that place, in this society. But during that time, even the fields or woods were not safe. Almost 2000 Muslims were killed and approximately 100000 Muslims were moved out of Ahmedabad.

Gujarath, the land that gave Mahatma Gandhi, a symbol of peace, who taught non-violence, is now regarded as one of the deadliest places for one section of people, who own and belong to the land as much as the other sections.

The family who lost their son is still in search of him. I hope they find him soon and happiness shower on them soon.
